Indeed, that's what I would do. I don't think everyone would, though, because we're just not all that curious of 'science geek' stuff.
However, I'm pretty sure of male character Y (say... Dean Winchester, for a reference) would do in a case of a perspective switch.... like gender swap. I.e. "I want to know what a chick orgasm feels like.", that specific gay may even try it the 'not solo' route, because, we all know 'It's not gay If I'm temporarily a chick'. :P
