(Wtf) Stuff, Things, and Other Overly Vague Nouns...

LJ Stuff

So a little spring cleaning happened the other day—

Wait, what do you mean January isn't spring? There's a damned daffodil in our back yard, isn't there? California has more or less forgotten how seasons work...

Not important.

Anyway, it was past time for some reorganization of my journal. The masterpost sticky was out of date and over-cluttered, so I added the fics that were missing and moved my Castle and Heroes fics to their own posts. Looking at the post for Heroes, I'm thinking I might have to cross post a few of my older works from FF.net to really justify the space. But by moving thos e two, at least it cuts down on most of the redundancy where crossovers are concerned.

I also made a masterpost with links to all my (ridiculously random) fan art. Mostly so I would have access all the fic banners in one place.

I decided I was sick of the old layout, so I changed it to the one I used for my (now abandoned) "professional blog" spiders_ilk. I love the green, and I think the newsprint dots and skulls both suit the journal admirably. I had a hell of a time tweaking the fonts from the layout's default. I'm clueless when it comes to CSS, and I couldn't find any really simple tutorials of the "To do X use Y" variety. That didn't stop me from spending way too much time poking and prodding and swearing trying (unsuccessfully) to change the post subjects to use Tahoma like the rest of the journal. After several hours I finally gave up fussing with it.

In the end all I really managed was changing the journal title to black, and adding a nice drop shadow. It'll work for now.

Miscellaneous Things

I was supposed to start a new Ravenloft game on Sunday. Unfortunately, one player had just had a tooth extracted, and the night before the other had gone mentioned an infection with a high fever, and wasn't around that day.

But now I haven't heard from that second player for nearly three days now, and I am incredibly worried for her. I know she went into the hospital the night she had the fever, but I talked with her a little bit the next day, so I thought she had been released.

She lives in another state, and I don't have any non-internet contact info for her, so I don't know if there's anything I could do to see if she's okay. :(

In happier news, my youngest sister had her boyfriend propose to her Christmas Day, so she is now engaged, and I suppose he's officially a fiance. Though I'd say the joy is subjective, because she did move to Washington with him when he left to be closer to his family, and my dad will never be happy about that. My impression of Destin was never particularly glowing, he just seemed really withdrawn and self-involved. But he was staying with us during the massive occupation (read: the overcrowding of more than ten adults sharing one home) so I don't think those were fair conditions in which to base an opinion of someone.

I wish I'd gotten more of a chance to know him outside of that situation...but I really am happy for her.

Random Nouns

Here is a list of things:

Crockpot:

Our oven is currently not working, and we'd been stuck with several roast-type things in the freezer for some time. My mom was the one that recalled my grandmother's old crockpot in the pantry. I pulled it out, hoping to at least get some use out of the roast meats without having to cut it all up for pasta...and I have to tell you I've kind of fallen in love with it.

So far I've managed to make tri-tip (room for improvement), pulled pork tacos (so much easier and more tender than chopping it up and frying it in a skillet) and oatmeal stuffed baked apples (these were really good). And last night I made my first lasagna. The noodles came out a bit overcooked, but since everything but the pasta goes in cooked using the recipe I have, I think I could easily shave an hour or two off the cooking time to compensate.

Grognard:

Me, apparently. I'm still stuck in 3.5e. I've heard good things about 5th Edition, though, and my bff Z has been trying to get me to join his group. I just don't know if I have the patience to learn a new system. He's probably going to win, in the long run. He's both persuasive and persistent. It's very annoying. Also, Jester on the Fraternity of Shadows forums has been working on a conversion of Ravenloft for 5e, and that will dismantle basically my only concrete argument against an edition shift.

*sighs*

Pumpkin:

My father is this close to having his pumpkin privileges revoked. Seriously. I don't know what it is about pumpkin pie, or things pumpkin flavored, but lately he's been kind of nuts about it. I think it's partly related to his new craving for sweets due to quitting drinking, but I seriously don't know why he's fixated on pumpkin of all things. Maybe it's the seasonal nature of the flavor involved? Like he's convinced that as soon as spring comes around (daffodils!) he's never going to get pumpkin pie again.

Pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin spice yogurts, puddings, cream cheese, coffee... And he has zero impulse control. Last time my mom went shopping he ate two yogurts and four pudding cups (the whole package) on the same night. And you just can't trust him to cut his own pie...he has an unreasonable view of how large a "piece" of pie should be.

(And he's still lost a bunch of weight since quitting... I usually wouldn't even care, but rarely is metabolic unfairness so painfully obvious. Ugh.)

It's sort of surreal hearing the same conversation about overindulgence that I'm used to hearing about an eighteen pack of beer shift itself toward sweets (though it's much easier to handle...you can't die from yogurt withdrawal). But I've warned him that if he doesn't slow down, my mother is going to stop getting him nice things...

And I think there was more stuff I wanted to talk about, but I've either forgotten it, or will have to wait to see how other things turn out.
