Choose 5 OTP’s without looking at the questions behind the cut first, (optional: then tag friends to do the same knock yourselves out).

1. Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan (Castle)
2. Cecil Palmer/Carlos (Welcome to Night Vale)
3. Harkness/Butch deLoria (Fallout 3)
4. Newton Geiszler/Hermann Gottlieb (Pacific Rim)
5. John Kennex/Dorian (Almost Human)

1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 5?
Oh, jeeze... I started shipping John and Dorian pretty much from the moment I first heard the show's premise. I've had a thing for Karl Urban since like, forever, and I've got a tiny bit of a cop kink (in fact, I have a sizable folder in my bookmarks specifically labeled "cop slash"), especially for partners pairings. Combine that with my obsession with ontological matters and questions of identity, and the "robot designed to feel" is just too tempting a target, pairing-wise.

It was never a question of whether I was going to ship them, simply how hard I would do so. >.<

2. Have you ever read fanfiction about 2?
Tons. In fact, I read Cecil/Carlos fic before I ever began listening to the podcast.

Originally, I was looking for inspiration for a daemon!fic based on #5 (which I still haven't finished writing) when I stumbled on SailorPtah's His Dark Materials crossover "He Says He Is An Experimental Theologian". I'd heard of Welcome to Night Vale before that, but that fic was my first real exposure to it...

And I fell in love instantly. ;)

3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr ID?
No. I don't tend to change my pics very often, and I don't do tumblr. Which is really a shame, because there is some fantastic fan art out there for Newt/Hermann. Especially the fics where one or both are transformed/transforming into kaiju (which, to be quite honest, was the trope that enticed me toward the pairing in the first place).

Alienfirst /Otachistongue is the artist that always springs immediately to mind. Their stuff is absolutely beautiful (if not also, occasionally, somewhat frightening and Geigeresque, but...with my personal tastes I consider that a plus).

4. If 3 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
This was a ship I'd never thought of until I read RustyPaperclip's fics on FF.net. Then I had a hard time thinking about anything else... lol

I'd be skeptical that a breakup would last. Butch is pretty impulsive, but based on reactions with the PC, he seems to forgive fairly easily. If the breakup was caused by his attitude, he'll eventually change his mind. If the breakup was Harkness's idea, well... Butch can be pretty persuasive.

In a setting like the Capital Wasteland, most petty reasons behind a breakup would probably be offset by the need to find comfort where you can.

(Even if, like Harkness, you're secretly a robot.)

5. Why is 1 so important?
Oh, man, where to start...? Well, what did we cover in the first question? Cop kink, parters slash, mhmm...

But mostly, it was because it held a lot of firsts for me. The first slash fic I ever finished writing—which was also the first multichapter fic I ever finished—was written for this pairing. It was also my first time participating in a fannish event (which I won, I was so thrilled).

The experience kind of hooked me on the pairing for life. It launched my most prolific period as a fic writer, consisting of numerous (frequently very bizarre) off-genre AUs and a novel-length crossover with Heroes (which is still awaiting multiple sequels).

I was super active in the pairing's LJ community for a while, though that community eventually faded away... I think the pairing is enjoying renewed interest on tumblr, but...I don't tumblr. I don't even watch Castle anymore... Watching it with my grandmother was a weekly ritual from the moment it first aired, and after I lost her I just never really enjoyed it the same way. Plus, the directions some of the characters had taken really turned me off (some of it struck me as really problematic and upsetting).

But I still love the characters, as I choose to remember them. And I've still got dozens of Roach fics still sitting around, partway written, and I still keep getting new ideas. So I'm still writing them, even if my interest in the show itself has all but disappeared.

6. Is 4 a funny ship or a serious ship?
Both? In the film, Hermann and Newton were more or less comic relief, but there's so much potential for angst (and horror) when they're written seriously. Though even in the most serious of stories, there's bound to be endless snark and banter, because that is just who they are.

But I absolutely prefer them to be written seriously.

7. Out of all your ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
Definitely #1. In earlier seasons, where they were all but treated as the same character. It was the fact that they were so in sync (even though they later demonstrate themselves as having distinct personalities) that first drew me to the pairing.

8. Of all the ships, which ship has the strongest bond?
Well, technically #4, since Hermann and Newt had the whole "sharing a brain" experience during the film...

But if you don't count that (and I never watched the end of season four, so for me their brief and apparently forgotten falling out never happened), I'd say Ryan and Esposito all the way.

9. How many times have you read/watched 2’s fandom?
I've only been through the full run of the podcast once, though I've listened to the pilot episode on multiple occasions with others, trying to convert others for the Glow Cloud (so far only succeeding in two instances, to my shame).

I did a massive pour through the fic archives on AO3, and was tempted to do so a second time, but there's just so much.

10. Which ship lasted the longest?
Well, I've definitely worshipped at the feet of #1 the longest.

In terms of in-canon time, I'd say #4, since Newt and Hermann are mentioned as having known eachother (at least in correspondance) since the early days of the Kaiju Wars to the movie's present in 2025, which comes out to probably around a decade.

In terms of how long I think they could last, I suppose Javier and Kevin are tied with Newt and Hermann for potential longevity of the relationship.

(Though if you also include fic, I've written AUs where Kev and Javi's relationship could potentially last for centuries...)

I wouldn't know how to measure Cecil and Carlos with the rest, since the question itself makes the erroneous assumption that time is actually a thing.

11. How many times, if ever, has 5 broken up?
I think if John and Dorian ever made it work in the first place, they'd manage to make it stick. John is stubborn as hell, and Dorian isn't much better (and is possessed of literally inhuman amounts of patience).

12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 1 or 3?
Well, sadly, given that they're currently already living in an apocalyptic wasteland (with zombies even, if you count feral ghouls), I'd say Butch and Harkness have the advantage.

Plus, Harkness is an android. Flesh eating undead tend to be a non-issue when you're made of metal.

13. Did 4 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
Probably not. I think in a future world threatened by alien monsters showing up to wreck your shit, people probably give even less of a damn about who you're with than they do today. Even polyamory including Hermann's novel-only wife would probably only draw a few odd looks.

14. Is 5 still together?
Absolutely.

15. Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
Yes: FOX!

T_T

But I went into watching the show knowing that sci-fi on Fox has a life expectancy roughly equivalent to that of snow in hell. I was prepared and resigned.

16. If all five ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
I think it would come down to 2, 3, and 5.

Cecil has an edge, since I imagine you have to be pretty hardcore to not only survive to adulthood in Night Vale (their elementary school students are encouraged to bear arms), but also to survive his radio station internship in the first place (though I suppose it depends on your interpretation of "Cassette" whether he actually did survive). The culture of Night Vale is steeped in needlessly lethal competition, so I think he could probably handle that part. Especially if he was also protecting Carlos.

Carlos's capability in the games is a little iffier.

Butch and Harkness have a similar edge for setting lethality, though Butch only just...he did spend his childhood in a Vault, after all. But his time in the Capital Wasteland has probably been brutal (and he did make it to Rivet City, somehow). And while he's not the sort to go causing murder and mayhem on his own, he probably wouldn't be bothered killing for his own survival. Harkness, definitely has Wasteland experience on his side, plus the added advantage of being an android.

John is obviously a battle-hardened soldier-cop if I ever saw one. Maybe his leg would slow him down a bit, but I doubt it would slow him much. Would he balk at killing the others? Maybe, but I think survival would triumph over his qualms in the matter. Though I think what physical strengths Dorian would otherwise bring to the table would be countered by his empathy. I don't think he would do well in this situation at all.

In the end, I think it would be close between John/Dorian and Butch/Harkness. If it came down to it, Dorian could probably handle Harkness...Dorian runs through walls and flips vans like it was easy, and there's nothing in Fallout 3 to indicate Harkness is remotely that strong.

(Though, in an upset, if Carlos used his Science to disable both androids, and probably John's leg as well, I think Cecil could probably tidy things up fairly quick...)

So...I guess #2 wins? Because apparently I can't decide without imagining the whole epic battle, lol.

17. Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
This question was apparently a duplicate... I suspect a conspiracy of CIA bears.

18. Which ship(s) would you defend to the death and beyond?
Do you even have to ask? (See question 5, re: Rysposito.)

19. Have you ever spent hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?
I do not tumblr. That is not a thing I do. Tumblr scares me.

20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the five ships to break up forever, which ship would you sink?
Hmm... Probably...#2? It'd be tragic, but it almost seems like canon has them heading that way, so I'm sort of prepared for it. I think that would hurt less than any of the others.

For some reason the mere fact that the ship is canon weirdly makes it easier to handle the idea of them breaking up. It exists somewhere besides in my head.
