The Genus* Series:
Vulgar Latin and Xenophilia. (Or, what happens when the Sluggard mistakes John Carpenter's "The Thing" for a romance.)
Eadem Mutata Resurgo*—Most stories have a beginning and an end. Sometimes it's impossible to tell the difference. (Prequel to "Sui Generis".)
Sui Generis*—Javier confessed never expecting Kevin to believe him. Kevin didn't, but somehow, things still wound up spiraling frighteningly out of control...

Title: The Magician
Series: Magic, When You Need It
Fandoms: Castle
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst, Fantasy
Warnings: Teaser fic. Minor warning going forward for involved religious themes being handled by an atheist. If you think that might offend you, this fic and its sequels will most probably not be for you.
Details: Gen, AU, genre!crack, pre-series, urban fantasy, magic, religion, atheism, prophecy, foreshadowing, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: Kevin Ryan
Wordcount: 4,173
Summary: "If you want to know where a man's future will lead, you have to know where he's been..." A fateful encounter leaves Kevin Ryan with two futures foretold—the one that he hopes for, and another that he fears. Unfortunately for him, both lie down the same path.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] spook_me's Halloween Ficathon. The creature prompt was "Witch/Wizard". Unfortunately, the resulting idea demanded a longer story, but I was unable to finish it before the deadline. Therefore this prologue is another stand-alone preview of what will soon (hopefully) be a full-length fic.

"If you want to know where a man's future will lead, you have to know where he's been..." )

Title: Mirage
Fandom: Gargoyles
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Fantasy, Angst
Details: Gen, fantasy, magic, faeries, transformation, homosexuality, queer gen, loneliness, adolescent pining, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: Lexington, Puck, Brooklyn, Broadway/Angela.
Wordcount: 1,189
Summary: During Puck's mischievous rampage in Demona's service, Goliath wasn't the only one given a glimpse of something he would never have.
Notes: Set after Avalon, but focuses on the events of "The Mirror". Not comics compliant.

In the end he had felt like an idiot for taking as long as he had to finally understand... )
black_sluggard: (Almost Human)

Title: Natalis Solis Invicti
Fandoms: Almost Human
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Science Fiction, Angst, Romance
Warnings: Mild references to abduction, disfigurement and suicide,
Details: Slash, wing!fic, transhumanism, biohacking, body modification, super science, cybernetics, body horror, loss of identity, dissonance, dysphoria, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: John Kennex/Dorian, Rudy Lom.
Wordcount: 2,732
Summary: Some things simply defy easy definition...
Notes: Anyone who knows me knew that my writing for this fandom was inevitable. Still, this wasn't quite the fic I'd imagined would be my first.
Written for [livejournal.com profile] isiskitsune's wing!fic prompt on [livejournal.com profile] almosthumantv. I have never written proper wing!fic before. I hope it's enjoyable. :)

Dorian was electricity, John's body the wire, and he understood with surpassing intimacy why a closed circuit was called complete. )

Title: Vasa Jijri ("Under the Skin")
Fandoms: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Fantasy, Family, Angst
Warnings: Racism, threats of racially motivated violence, mildly violent bullying, religious drug use, non-consensual drug-use, under-aged drug use, accidental poisoning, harm to children.
Details: Gen, pre-canon, prequel, fantasy, magic, demons, Faustian deals, tragic love, family, cultural differences, distant fathers, questionable parenting decisions, anthropomorphic animals, fantasy racism, angst, lies and deception, stealth crossover, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: OCs, Frida, Fruki, Skald the Elder, Dro'marash, Bulfrek, mentions of others.
Wordcount: 31,937
Summary: The father he had never met had left him with a Breton name. Growing up in Dawnstar, his mother's people had bestowed the ignoble kenning of "Honeymilk". His mother's friends among the Khajiit caravans outside the city called him ja'ahn kriniit, which in Ta'agra meant "laughing boy". But the caravan leader, Ri'yaan, had always called him ahzi' ja'ahn—"my boy"—and when he was young, it was this name he had loved best.
(The story of a half-Nord boy growing up in Dawnstar, and his friendship with the Khajiit of the caravans.)
Notes: The Dragonborn does not appear in this story, nor does it have anything to do with the main quest.
Also, I know that "Kevin" is a really weird name for the Elder Scrolls 'verse. I originally set out to write a fusion fic with the TV series Castle, and this story grew out of trying to conceive a background for one of that show's characters. Other than that detail, this fic is rooted pretty firmly in Tamriel, so you don't need to know anything about Castle to understand this story. I kept the name because I do plan to finish that story someday, though by now the character is practically unrecognizable...
Finally, I use a reconstruction of Ta'agra (the Khajiit language), which is based primarily on canon and near-canon sources. Two exceptions to this are the words "vasa" and "jijri" (used in the title) which are neither, nor do they belong to me. They appear among a list of Ta'agra vocabulary that can be found in several Elder Scrolls sites online, which mixes fanon words with those from canon sources. This makes it difficult to know where they originally came from, but they were likely created by a fan-mod or RP community somewhere.
(More notes at the end.)

Title: Need
Series: Life
Fandoms:Castle
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Friendship, Family.
Warnings: Reference to past medical recovery. OCs
Details: Slash, AU, genre!crack, zombies, hurt/comfort, platonic physical affection, emotional vulnerability, skin hunger, diabetes like woah.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan, Richard Castle. Reggie Simpson (OC).
Wordcount: 1,593
Summary: Sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is allow themselves to lean on others.
Notes: Revisits a few scenes from part two of "Quality of Life" and finishes immediately after "Heart Attack".

One thing he had absolutely failed to anticipate was how much he would miss being touched... )

black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)

Title: As True As the Sky
Series: Evidence
Fandom: Castle
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst, Friendship.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito, Ike Thornton, (background Javier/Kevin).
Details: Slash, genre!crack, werewolves, friendship, introspection, loyalty, moral ambiguity, altered mental states, unbetad.
Word Count: 3,312
Summary: Javier answers some of the rumors that have been circulating among the NYPD. What results is an examination of ghosts and werewolves, pack and family, fear, control, loyalty, friendship and trust.
Notes: Some version of this scene seems to take place in nearly every universe I write... Though, so far, the only other one I've completed appears as an interlude in "Black Edelweiss".
Oh, and props to anyone who recognizes where the title comes from.

"Three years can change a lot of things, Ike," Javier said, "but we both know it's more than that." )

Title:Possession
Series: Life
Fandoms:Castle
Rating: NC-17
Genre: Romance, Angst, PWP.
Warnings: Explicit sexual content, religious intolerance, unbetad.
Details: Slash, AU, genre!crack, zombies, bigotry, religion, doublethink, blasphemy, personal identity, introspection, smut, orgasm control, fingering, oral sex, oral fixation, rough sex, rimming.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan.
Wordcount: 1,709
Summary: Patience is a virtue, but it can also be a vice...
Notes: This one was pretty much just waiting for Solo Duet to be finished to give it the necessary push. It takes place a significant time later, probably several months, but it doesn't make as much sense without that other fic.
Again, while I am myself an Agnostic (with Discordian leanings) I have nothing against respectful persons of faith, whatever their beliefs, and no offense is meant by the references to religion herein.

Javier felt his physical limitations gave him more than enough license to get creative. )
black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)
Title: Solo Duet
Series: Life
Fandoms:Castle
Rating: NC-17
Genre: Romance, Humor, PWP, Angst.
Warnings: Explicit sexual content, unbetad.
Details: Slash, AU, genre!crack, zombies, awkwardness, naughtiness, teasing, sexual dysfunction, masturbation, exhibitionism, dirty talk.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan
Wordcount: 1,241
Summary: Life isn't always perfect, but it often doesn't have to be.
Notes: Just a little early-relationship snippet from the Life 'verse (maybe a few days to a week after the end of Quality of Life) that's been sitting around unfinished for ages. I believe it was initially inspired by MMOM atleast two years ago, but never finished until now.

And Kevin knew he was babbling, but seeing Javier looking uncertain like that did all kind of namelessly unhappy things to him. )
black_sluggard: (xeno kink)

Title: Duo In Carne Una
Series: Genus
Fandoms: Castle
Rating: NC-17
Genre: Horror, Science Fiction, Romance, Angst.
Warnings: Squick, panic attacks/PTSD, and we'll say dub-con for various abstract reasons.
Details: Slash, AU, genre!crack, angst, body horror, xenophilia, starfish aliens, tentacles, kink, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings:Castle―Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan, Kevin/Jenny.
Wordcount: 9,079
Summary: Months after the revelations which challenged everything he knew about his partner—and in the face of his looming wedding—Kevin makes his choice. (Sequel to "Sui Generis".)
Notes: More weirdness from me. I'll pretend that you're surprised. This one is a lot more romantic than the first, but there's also a lot of...other stuff. Think Jerry McGuire meets National Geographic meets "At the Mountains of Madness" (or "You had me at 'shoggoth'.").
This is where I start pointing at the order in which the listed genres appear...but, I'm also incapable of writing a tragedy, and on the off chance I ever did I would definitely label it as such.
(Which is, I guess, my way of reassuring you all that no one is about to die or get eaten.)

Just thinking about what he had to do was gutting him. Still, it felt...right to him, just the same. )
black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)

Title: Eadem Mutata Resurgo
Series: Genus
Fandoms:Castle
Rating: R
Genre: Horror, Angst, Science-fiction.
Warnings: Off-screen character death, gore, present tense (if that needs a warning).
Details: Gen, AU, genre!crack, angst, body horror, starfish aliens, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito.
Wordcount: 1,390
Summary: Most stories have a beginning and an end. Sometimes it's impossible to tell the difference. (Prequel to "Sui Generis".)
Notes:This isn't the sequel I've been working on. That story contains significantly more porn. But this scene sort of hit me over the head tonight (while I was working on something completely unrelated, to be honest), and wound up finishing itself quite nicely.

He doesn't know which should worry him more, the memory of pain, or the lack of it. )
black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)
Title: Until Lambs Become Lions
Series: Grimm Reflections
Fandoms: Castle, Grimm
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Fantasy, Angst, Romance
Details: Pre-slash, crossover, AU, genre!crack, mythical creatures, fairytales, divorce, cross-cultural relationships, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings:pre-Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan, past-Kevin Ryan/Jenny O'Malley.
Wordcount: 2,176
Summary: There are things Javier knows about his partner's wife—ex-wife—that Kevin doesn't.
Notes:This is a prologue to a longer fic entitled "Grimm Reflections", which will involve a proper crossover with the characters from Grimm.
All you need to know to understand this story is that there are races of animal-like supernatural creatures called "wesen" (ves-en) that live secretly amongst humans, and Grimms are humans gifted (or cursed) with the ability to see them for what they really are. Grimms act as humanity's defenders from wesen-kind. Historically, many have viewed all wesen as subhuman or evil, contributing to the reciprocal belief among wesen that Grimms are indiscriminate, brutal killers.

"I'm not afraid of you, Javier," Jenny finally admitted, voice rough as she looked up into his eyes. "I'm afraid of him." )
black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)

Title: Ghoulies and Ghosties
Fandoms: Castle
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance, Horror, Angst, Fluff.
Details: Slash, genre!crack, horror elements, folklore, scary stories.
Wordcount: 1,840
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan.
Summary: It's past midnight on their first Halloween together, and Kevin and Javier are finally ready to talk about it. Sort of.
(Sequel to "Trick or Treat")
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] spook_me challenge (a bit late, but not bad compared to my usual definition of "late"). Since I'd written several supernatural and horror fics in the past, I asked to be given a creature prompt instead of choosing one myself. The creature I was assigned was "bogeyman", which immediately had my mind leap back to this 'verse. So instead of an actual new story, you get a coda/sequel instead.
Also, I have to acknowledge that the scene was partially inspired by [livejournal.com profile] apodiopsys's story "Call It What You Want".

This year, they had each needed the silence—the normalcy—of a quiet night in. )
black_sluggard: (dark crack)
Title: Impressed, Impression, Imprinted
Series: Life
Fandoms: Castle
Rating: NC-17
Genre: Romance, Angst, Humor, Smut.
Warnings: Light for biting/marking, blood-drinking, come eating (there's a warning I never thought I'd use) and omg smut.
Details: Slash, AU, genre!crack, zombies, PWP, hand jobs, infodump (a.k.a. "pornus interruptus"), biting, marking, possessive behavior, cheesiness, unbetad.
Characters/Pairings: Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan.
Wordcount: 2,521
Summary: In which Kevin shares a bit of history (and is an irredeemable tease, but we all knew this), and Javier gains the upper-hand (as it were).
Details: Inspired by a comment by [livejournal.com profile] hyuuganeji11. Immediately follows "You Bet Your Life".

"So, eleven," Javier finally managed. "That's...impressive." )

(Fic) Trier of Fact

black_sluggard: (ryan and esposito)
Title: Trier of Fact
Series: Evidence
Fandoms: Castle
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Angst, Horror, Supernatural
Warning: Minor, brief contemplation of suicide.
Details: Genre!crack, werewolves, case!fic(ish), angst for no reason, unbetad. Oh, and bathrooms...yes, that's right, again. Where else does the angst live if not in bathrooms?
Characters/Pairings: Kevin Ryan/Jenny O'Malley, pre-Kevin Ryan/Javier Esposito, Kate Beckett.
Wordcount: 2,664
Summary: A look at Kevin's experiences leading up to the events of "Evidence to the Contrary".
Notes: A while back, [livejournal.com profile] adja999 made a comment about a detail in Evidence, and it occurred to me that while I made reference to the case that started it all, I pretty much glossed over the details entirely. I hadn't initially planned to write this out, but the question begged, and then something else occurred to me. Something that I needed to explore...

Needless to say, the case would not go down as one of his favorites. )

A pushy fucking pusher who pushes. He got me hooked on Magic: The Gathering. The bastard. I got him back by finding a program to play it online, called Octgn. Now we're both wrapped up with deck building, testing, and more smack-talking than usual. I've spent the last four days building random-ass decks. I've already got a green spider/druid deck and a black faerie/boggart deck. I'm rather proud of my dark faerie deck. I managed to beat Josh's vampire deck once, and got close a second time, but mostly he's trounced me. I also want to make a black Geiger-themed deck and a zombie deck. And my sister, Kenna, is working on a merfolk deck.

Fucker.

So, yeah. Anyone interested in playing/learning to play MtG online using Octgn? It takes a while to set up, but it's so worth it.

In other news, I'm still hard at work (*nervous laugh*) on my story for this year's Ficathon for [livejournal.com profile] ryanandesposito. Sadly, however, inspiration (or lack thereof) has driven me to change my plans. Instead of my superhero story (apologies to [livejournal.com profile] roachstar, I'll get to it someday T_T), I've wound up finally developing my CastlexSupernatural crossover bunny. I've already completed two chapters, and if I really work at it, I'm sure I'll have the third and fourth finished in time, along with the epilogue.
