Okay, first and foremost, I finally heard from my missing player. She's...well, she's not okay (i.e. she is still in the hospital, and in misery, and probably will be for a while), but that's still better than any of the possibilities my overactive imagination had been throwing at me.
So...that really sucks, but at least now I know.
Moving on...
5th Edition. Having finally been forced to look at the rules, I...hate to say, I kind of like them. They're close enough to 3.5 that I can grasp them fairly easily... In fact, they almost seem like the same rules in several places, just pared down.
It probably wouldn't be hard to make an edition jump... Which isn't to say I'm going to for my own game...at least not any time soon.
I'm still considering whether or not to join Z's 5e group. I've been having enough trouble focusing on the projects and activities I already have sitting around, so I'm not sure if I want to pick up another right now.
It wouldn't even be a question, save that there's little commitment required if I do choose to join. It's a "West Marches" style game, which means that the DM is offering a sandbox setting for a large group of players to explore and letting them direct things rather than setting forth plots and goals himself. And there's a sufficient amount of players that if I join and drop out, it wouldn't impact the play of others to any significant degree, which is always a concern.
I'll just have to think about it I guess.
Now that I'm mostly set up on the desktop again, with all my files where I need them, I've fallen into my usual problem of not knowing which story to focus on. I'm debating whether or not to start posting WIPs once again. I liked being able to put out a finished fic, all done, and not have to worry about getting distracted and leaving readers hanging. I also like the freedom of being able to go back and change earlier chapters if new ideas arise.
But...I've finished so little of my writing since I've made that my policy. I can't help but wonder if I might be getting more done if I put some of the finished chapters to the unfinished stories out there for people to see...
*sigh*
