Though I'm behind in posting a Valentine's story for
ryanandesposito, I'd like to take the time to share with you an article about three works: one of them dubiously called "art", and two created by artists enacting the holy Discordian sacrament of Parody upon it.
A warning, the first painting seen through this link is graphic and disturbing. Fortunately, it is meant to be. However, it is still profoundly less disturbing than the original it spoofs, which clearly wasn't.
Make sure you visit the (linked) site for the original so that you can see the helpful hover-over action describing each symbolic element of the piece. (Brr. Just. Fucking. Brrr.)
Then, visit the second parody of the site itself (also linked) and see the reworked captions.
Hail Eris.
ETA: So, I'll admit I cheated on the timestamp for this (though not by much), but I posted it on my Facebook before midnight, so it still totally counts...

I like the commentary, because I like commentaries in general. They give you important informations on details or references you might miss because you can't know everything. And since I'm not an American, I miss more.
However, I'm not sure I like the tone of it. I like my commentaries to be unbiased, or at least to aim at it. In articles, sometimes journalists will make it easy to guess which side they lean, but they'll still list the arguments for each side and summarize the debate.
Here... it takes a stand. And not one I like.
I feel like taking this to photoshop and adding a speech bubble from Jesus saying "What is this bullshit?"
The watch on the wrist of the Judge made me think of the Doomsday Clock. But, my bad, after checking, it's only at 11:55.
Doesn't if feel to you like two people are writing the blurbs? Or... sometimes the person writing says what they mean, and sometimes they get 'policically correct' and therefore not coherent with the rest?
As much as I don't really find the first once creepy, I do find the original very scary.

Date: Wednesday, 15 February 2012 06:04 pm (UTC)From:Nah, I'm just trying to get a post in every day. Because I like seeing the days on my LJ calendar filled up with "content".
One of my best friends linked me to the Cthulhu parody because, well, he knows me. But I could tell there had to be a bigger picture behind it so I googled the artist's name and "cthulhu" and found the article I liked to comparing it to the original.
The website parody (the one with the rollovers that don't make me want to gouge my eyes out in imitation of the first painting) was done by a webcomic artist. I don't read Shortpacked, but I've heard of it.
Regarding the original, just... Conservatives (and conservative Christians particularly) so often just flat out give me the creeps.
I mean, I know there are sane people out there who don't share my same philosophies politically or spiritually...but shit like this makes it hard to want to even listen to them sometimes. It's like some people don't even see reality enough to realize they're shooting their own arguments in the foot half the time. Like they don't even realize how fundamentally skewed their worldview is.
Sorry. I has a sad for this world, and I cannot shake it.

Oh, please, don't appologize. I like knowing I'm not alone in those views. These days the political campaigns rage in France because the presidential runs are coming ALL OVER THE WORLD. And the amount of bullshit we hear everyday is frightening.
And I'm like "Come on, give us a break. Do you really think we're that stupid?"
And then I look around, hear the conversations on the streets and stuff and I remember. Yeah. As a whole, we are. *headdesk*
This brings us to the eternal.... should there be a standard for allowing people to vote (ergo, making potentially important decisions for 'the common good')? And what should it be? And who's to decide what it is?
Because, I'm for democracy. In my mind, everybody should be able to vote.
And then I hear someone and I'm like NO. YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE. EVER.
I dunno. Maybe in an alternate universe voting is like driving, and you have to have a licence that testify that you know what political manipluation is, that you mostly don't fall for it, that you know what greenwashing is and so on.
Educated, informed decisions.
Like I often say... "Most people don't realize this: common sense? Not so common."
Sorry for ranting at you. But I think you'll find we share the same sad over the state of the human race.

But yeah. It's probably because I can practically picture you saying it and the utterly dejected tone with it. ^^

I shouldn't be expecting anything more from a movie called Space Balls. "Keep firing, assholes!" has me conjuring scatophilia images that make me wish I didn't always picture my thoughts so very, very bad.
Your ETA: Word.

Since I'm French I've missed a few of those international references. My parents were more documentary/political shows growing up. So I'm only catching up with Monty Python now. Can you imagine?
It's probably why I jumped right into tv show land. It's something they don't know nor understand. They despise the idea even without actually knowing what it is. For them, tv shows and soaps are the same.
So... All My Children (the only one which name I'm sure of in English) = Buffy = Rome = The Sopranos = The Price Is Right
*headdesk*
(Nope. Did not get side tracked from the original theme, here. Nuh huh)

I'm yawning so bad I'm starting to worry for my jaw, so... I should probably take a cue, lift my cat from my bed and slide in now that it's been warmed up for me. ^^
*waves* Have fun with Zombie sex.
(This sounds SO wrong. I just love it.)
