...and totally never finished.
I've flitted through a lot of unusual fandoms in my time as a fic writer, but the first one I ever wrote for you've probably never heard of. After all, not all movie fandoms are The Eagle (which I rationally know wasn't, but I still have difficulty believing it wasn't written with slash in mind).
I love horror movies. Often, I love mediocre horror movies, because the films that capture my attention may not do so on the strength of the acting, the plot, or the effects, but on a some in the story. "Doesn't that fall under 'plot'?" you might ask. No, not really. Because isolated from the plot itself, it's usually some small concept or idea that I'd eat up anywhere, regardless of the story it was in. These details often share a component I like to call "the Good Angst" (I've posted about that elsewhere online, but I guess I haven't done so here yet... Well, at least I know what I'm going to natter on about tomorrow night.
I digress.
But it's a situation where a character is force to watch their body undergo a hideous transformation, or where they discover they've been dead for years and never knew it, or that they aren't who or what they thought they were (and perhaps they aren't and never have been human). You might notice these themes are reflected heavily in my own writing.
You know, if by "heavily" you mean "to a degree of wrenching detail that borders on the fetishistic". And then only if "borders" is defined by "Oh, hey, nice fence... Mind if I burrow under?"
I'm clearly in a weird mood tonight.
Moving on, Long Time Dead was not a bad movie. It was actually a very good movie. I won't go into it for those who haven't seen it. And as I've clumsily tried to explain, it inspired my first fanfiction...which was a crossover. Actually, it was a crossover with Kate & Leopold.
Yeah, that's right. My first fanfic was a crossover between a grizzly horror film and a fluffy fantasy romcom starring Meg Ryan. I expand on the time-travel physicist's character a great deal (because Christ did I ever have a crush on Liev Schreiber...fuck, I still do).
The plot was basically that the time traveler uses his knowledge to create a fix-it for the first film's ambiguous downer ending... Of course, because it's me the result is more angst as the time traveler tries to avoid his descent into becoming his morally grey future self and the protagonist of Long Time Dead winds up in a screwed up situation that is kind of...possession turned inside out.
Huh... Actually, that almost sounds like Black Edelweiss, doesn't it?
It's here for your perusal. It probably makes no sense whatsoever, and I'm never going to finish it (it's six years old...), but I like some of the imagery I've strung together.

(Off-topic? I'd really need to have a topic here for that to be possible... This entry bounces back and forth like a runner's nuts.)
