I'd intended to devote most of this weekend to finishing up an unfinished fic for the Life 'verse, but instead I got distracted and...started doing my homework. Yeah, I don't even know how that happened. I guess I have to blame it on Ms. Velez again (she of the Mad Men obsession, and essay project on advertising that inspired the opening to A Proliferation of Hearts) for assigning a research paper on "an artist or art movement and how it influences your field of study" (with some looseness regarding what constitutes "art" and permission to ignore the "field of study" bit).
Last Tuesday, during the pre-writing brainstorming session, I was scribbling down a bunch of random possible topics. I started with Akira Kurosawa (because I'm thinking of switching my major from animation to film, and because thought he'd be easy to research), went through Ridley Scott and David Lynch (mostly because of the discussions of Blade Runner and Dune on

Somehow...that didn't happen.
Beats me how, but at some point after finishing the public transit inspired ficlet (Magic Enough in Moonlight) I composed on the way home, I started looking for sources. Once I did it was kind of hard to stop. I have...probably enough by now to get by (though I still need at least one peer-reviewed journal, which I am having a bitch of a time finding. Fuck it, I'll do it tomorrow...I'm ahead of schedule anyway.)
By the way? The fact that this and an Image Manipulation project to create an album design for Blue Öyster Cult's Imaginos album are my homework are just two examples of why the fuck I love attending an art school.
(though, granted, it's only a matter of time before I flip and start hating it again, but that's life)

I find it fascinating, and illarious, that the insane prolific quality and imaginativity of this man all stems from a deep phobia of... the female genitalia.
I mean, if you gonna be gay, it might as well be because you see aquatic monsters in girls....
Psshh... Attention getter.

Though my brain's taking it in a weird direction about nihilism, facelessness, and how the dwarfing nature of modern global society makes his brand of horror more potent than ever.
