The
1. What's the first movie you snuck into before you were legally old enough to see it?
I never got the opportunity to do that. But did seen plenty of movies before it was probably age-appropriate for me to watch them. My favorite example is probably Excalibur (1981), which I probably saw as early as seven years old. The most egregious example is probably Pulp Fiction, which my parents allowed me to watch (but not my younger sisters) when I was twelve or thirteen.
2. What's the last movie you saw in a theatre?
M. Night Shaymalan's Devil. I saw it with my sister back when it came out. Was an excellent movie, I thought. And I liked the overall "meaning" of it. The story ended with a pretty clear moral, but once you've gotten to it through some pretty tense suspense horror, it's excusable, and it fits. Though the upside down opening credit sequence made me a little nauseous watching it on the big screen.
3. What's your favourite movie?
Dark City, now and forever. Just... I can't even.
4. What's your favourite scary movie?
Dog Soldiers was my fave for a very long time. Probably still counts, because it's definitely overtly scarier, but I have to say my new favorite horror movie is The Revenant. They're both somewhat funny movies with lots of banter to go with their real scares, but while the werewolves in the first are more threatening, the horror in The Revenant is the subtle kind that can come back at your mind with scary thoughts weeks later.
Also, I'm a sucker for sentient zombies, and David Anders, and his having all the angst.
5. Think of your favourite actor or actress - what's their best movie role?
God, this is a really hard question. I tend to latch onto character actors, so picking a favorite and a best role is really difficult.
Hm. Viggo Mortensen is awesome. And he was excellent as Aragorn. But his best movie role in my opinion was before his leading man days, back when he played Lucifer in The Prophecy. The devil was on their side in that movie, but he was still fucking creepy. Probably the scariest version of the devil that I've ever seen in a movie.
6. What movie do you think is the most over-rated?
2012. Just...so bland. And dumb. The only part I liked was the bit with the crazy guy in his trailer sticking around for Yosemite to blow up.
7. What movie do you think deserves a sequel and doesn't have one?
Honestly? Total wishful-fulfillment here, but I gotta say The Cave (2005).
Tyler and Top deserve the chance to prevent Kathryn from spreading the parasite. Lena Headly is awesome, and we deserve to see her being transformed by the parasite and begin its spread.
We also need to learn that Jack survived his attempt at a heroic sacrifice, and we totally deserve to see an angsty scene between Tyler and a hideously deformed Jack so that Tyler can have a man cry about what his brother has become.
Oh, and in the end, Jack should just fucking eat Kathryn. That's my verdict.
8. What movie do you think has a sequel and doesn't deserve one?
Basically all the "Movie" movies. Scary Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, Epic Movie... God, if I see another one of those come out, I'm probably going to be sick.
9. Name a book that you think should be made into a movie and hasn't been.
I should say American Gods by Neil Gaiman, but there's just too much in it, and people would fuck it up. So...
Raven by S.A. Swiniariski. It's kind of obscure.
It's one part detective mystery, four parts horror story, and all awesome. I'd love to see how a film would work up to the (not surprising if you read the back blurb) reveal that the protagonist, a private detective who lost his memories working a case where he was hired to search for a girl apparently kidnapped by vampires, has actually been a vampire since he regained consciousness at the beginning of the story and never realized it.
And seeing the scene where he is forced to explain what he's become to his adult daughter acted out on screen has the potential to break my heart again. (Which is to say, the most dramatic and serious use of the line "Are those bullet holes?" ever.)
10. And finally - let's start a chain of our favourite movie dialogue! Leave all the previous answers to this question intact, then add your own answer along with the movie it's from, and also your LJ name.
"Infected with what?" "Rage." - 28 Days Later.
"I hope I give you the shits you fucking wimp." - Dog Soldiers
