uberniftacular gave me:

Ahh, three of my favorite TV detectives that I slash the everliving shit out of...even if I don't watch the shows they are on any more.
L-R: Detective Carlton "Lassie" Lassiter from Psych, Detective Javier "authorsfavoritesayswhut" Esposito from Castle, and Detective Danny "Danno" Williams from Hawaii 5-0.
The first I cropped myself out of random promo pic found via google. Tie? Check. Eyebrows? Check. Sexy smolder? Check and check. I've always really gone for the no-nonsense "straight man" type (for lack of a less ironic term), and Lassie has that in spades.
Shawn/Lassiter slash (a.k.a. "Shassie") was what initially brought me to the fandom side of LJ. I've tried unsuccessfully, numerous times, to write fanfic for the pairing. One was a werewolf story called "Lassie Gets Mooned", and had its plot ripped off more or less directly by Kev and Javi, eventually becoming "Evidence to the Contrary". Lassie was also supposed to be one of the Irin in the "Quis Custodiet" series, but I eventually abandoned that plan due to lack of inspiration. Most of the rest have basically been forgotten. I don't even read Psych fic that often anymore, but I keep this icon mostly out of nostalgia...
And because sexy-tie-man is sexy, okay?
The second was created out of a screenshot while I was still working on "Quality of Life". I felt so weird writing that fic, and wound up creating this icon as a sort of self-deprecating joke. Because, you know, it's one thing to write zombie porn about your favorite TV detective, but no one in their right mind does that and expects anyone to like it. So...I was convinced I'd veered into tinfoil hat territory. Color me surprised when people actually dug it.
Still, some things require an apology regardless of their reception, and I'm fairly certain that writing a scene where a beloved character devours a live animal is one of them.
Javier really is my favorite character ever to write from the point of view from—and that's beating out Sylar, so it's not exactly a small thing. Probably a full 70% or more of my published fic has been from Javier's point of view. I don't know why he's so easy for me to write—I have literally nothing in common with the character—he just is.
It's also worth noting, that I ship Javier and Kevin so hard I can't even stand to watch the show any more. I know it's irrational, but it's not something I can help.
The third was created by
anuminis, who I do not know personally, but has shared numerous awesome icons on
stevedannoslash. I chose this one because it seemed fairly all-purpose, and well suited for commenting on fic. Also useful outside of the realm of fic as a general "WTF"...which I completely forgot I could have been using on all the journals I prefix with those letters...go figure.
I also feels it sums of the essence of Danno. In fandom, at least, he probably has a couple of patents on various shades of righteous indignation.
I was briefly very invested in Steve/Danno fic, but I've probably only ever watched...maybe four episodes, tops of Hawaii 5-0. All from season one. So I really have no idea what's happening there. Still, a lot of the remaining action for "Quis Custodiet" still needs to take place there, so I need to find some way of kick-starting my muse for that fandom if I ever hope to give the characters closure.
Moving on from my gay cop kink...

My sister found this one, probably on facebook, and it wound up in her "weird images" file. I loved it because reasons.
It comes from a French AIDS awareness poster. The upper half was this image, while the bottom half was a woman apparently receiving cunnilingus from a giant tarantula.
I'm fairly certain my reaction to the imagery was not as intended. Xeno. It's a thing.
This icon has therefore become my go-to icon for Weird ShitTM. Needless to say, while I still don't have an Avengers themed icon, this one pops up
avengerkink from time to time. It's also the default icon for gorier entries in the Life series and for "Sui Generis" (which...actually, come to think of it, the sequel currently in development actually has a scene that looks...just a little bit like that).

You may or may not recognize David Anders (a.k.a. Adam Monroe) of Heroes fame under all that decay, but I swear it's him. This is from a still of the film The Revenant.
adja999 turned me on to this movie, and I was so glad that she did. If you haven't seen it, see it, oh my God. It's become my favorite zombie movie ever. It's one of those films that has a bit of everything: action, horror, comedy. It's romantic, it's gross, it's tragic, it's amazing. Anders' performance in his second scene of the film was so complex and heartrending, I was honestly falling in love...
You know, in spite of the fact he looked like he'd been dead for a month.
Imagine Boondock Saints meets Shawn of the Dead. In the best possible way. It's awesome.

Technically, this was the first icon I ever made. It was cut out of a banner I made for my signature on GaiaOnline.
(Yes, I know, old shame, lets move on...)
It was made just after the end of season 3 of Supernatural, in the spirit of "Well, we all know they're bringing Dean back, but how?" Cut from...I forget the name of the episode. The one where they go into Bobby's dreams. I loved Nightmare!Demon!Dean, and almost wish they had gone the demon route with the elder Winchester's resurrection. Not that I don't love Castiel, or the Angels weren't an awesome antagonist (they were). I just feel it's a lot of lost potential...
...angst. Potential angst. There, I said it.
By the way, I don't know why, but this icon and the banner for the Life series both look rubbish on my screen. There's something wrong with the gamma or something, and the contrast between some of the blacks I painted in is exaggerated. I've tried fixing them, but it never seems to work. Still, for some reason they look fine when I view it them from other computers.

Date: Saturday, 20 October 2012 05:33 am (UTC)From:I should probably point my husband in the direction of The Revenant. Because he loves horror movies and gross things, and he LOVED Shaun of the Dead, which I kind of hated. But I suspect he would like this very much.
(Go ahead and pick icons for me if you feel like it. I won't get to posting about them until morning, though, because I'm about to fall asleep at the keyboard.)
