(Wtf) So much for NaNo

Three days in, and I've already gotten a bit discourage. I've only got three hundred words... But that's not why I'm probably not going to make it.

No, the reason I probably won't make it is because Zeretal has dragged into playing a new MUD... The game is set in modern day New England, but I'm apparently going to be playing a Bronze Age sorcerer from an alternate dimension who can shapeshift into a dinosaur.

You know. Because that happens.

Ha. Well, you can join me in not doing NaNoWriMo. I think I'll do it next year, though. By then I'll be done with all of my ongoing Heroes fics (except probably More Between Us) and hopefully I'll have an outline or direction hashed out for an original fic. Plus my kids will be a bit older, my job will be more stable, and my financial situation will be better. Probably. You know. Things happen. NaNoWriMo is a great tool towards writing, but I have other things in my life I have to get right before I can commit to writing that much that fast.

Part of my problem is that, with fanfic, I don't feel as constrained to get everything right. I mean, I still get lost in tab upon tab of wiki pages researching minutia for fic. Working on original stories I get overwhelmed by details, because I feel like I have to get them right. Then I get frustrated.

I probably will write the story I was going to eventually, just not for NaNo. My head is too all over the place lately to try and do that.

It's frustrating. It is an awesome MUD. I haven't played it much, but I can already tell that (and finding one with the kind of contemporary fantasy setting I love isn't easy, so that alone makes it special). The problem is that it's run by the same admin who ran the other contemporary fantasy based MUD that devoured my life years ago (BuffyMUD), leading to a whole lot of drama.

I'm hoping that he's matured since then. I'm not optimistic, though. From what I've heard from the friends of mine that still played there before HavenMUD opened, it was a lot of the Same Old Shit. Which was really drama, stupidity, and Tyr (the admin) being a control freak.
